History

Historical overview

The foundations of the Romanian neurosurgery were laid by Professor Dimitrie Bagdasar (1899-1946), as early as 1935. He accomplished his scientific formation in Boston, with Prof. H. W. Cushing (1927-1929),  his department in Bucharest becoming the first one in Southeast Europe.

Professor Constantin Arseni developed for the first time a real neurosurgery school in Romania.

Founded in 200 ?, the Romanian Society of Neurosurgery (R.S.N.) is a scientific and professional organization that brings together neurosurgeons and specialists in medical and university related fields. The main purposes of R.S.N. are both the promotion and dissemination of the theoretical and practical knowledge among its members, as well as the exchange of experience between Romanian neurosurgeons and those from the international community.

Under the auspices of R.S.N. a series of activities are carried out:

  • The organization of scientific events: conferences, congresses, round tables, symposiums.
  • Outline of clinical and educational research programs in neurosurgery and affiliated sciences.
  • The publishing of specialized magazines.
  • The participation in the elaboration of the national strategy of neurosurgical care.
